About Vadens.
Vadens publishes short guides for families whose relative could be detained by ICE. Each one answers a single question in its first few lines.
What this is
A small reference site for the first few days after someone is taken into immigration detention — the period when families are making consequential decisions with almost no information, under time pressure, often in a second language.
The guides are written for that moment. Short, answer first, readable on a phone with a bad connection.
What this is not
It describes how the system works in general. It is information, not legal advice, and it cannot tell you what applies to a particular person — that needs a lawyer who has seen the case.
How it is paid for
It is free, and it stays free. The site takes no advertising, has no sponsored links, sells nothing, and receives nothing from any organisation it links to.
Privacy
We do not ask who you are and we do not ask about anyone’s immigration status. What is recorded anyway — and what is deliberately not — is set out in full on the privacy page, which is written to describe what the code actually does rather than what we would like it to do.
Two details worth knowing here. Every page has a quick-exit control: the Exit button, or the Esc key, replaces this site with Google immediately. It is deliberately not instrumented — pressing it sends us nothing. And the site sends no referrer information to anywhere you click through to, so the sites in our links do not learn you arrived from a page about ICE detention.
